The Galion City School District Board of Education met for its January meeting on Wednesday, January 9, 2024, at 6:30 p.m. in the Galion Middle School Computer Lab.
The Board recognized students who exemplified the "Portrait of a Tiger" trait, "Empathetic." The following students were acknowledged for demonstrating compassion and understanding within the school district and the broader community:
- Brooklyn Reasoner - 2nd grade
- Avery Daniels - 3rd grade
- Raegen Woodmansee - 6th grade
- Caleb Franks - 10th grade
The Board also recognized Maria Wegesin, 8th grade, who exemplified the "Portrait of a Tiger" trait, "Involved,” and who was unable to be present for recognition at the December meeting. Shelby was acknowledged for her outstanding commitment to being actively engaged in school and community activities.
January has been designated School Board Recognition Month in Ohio, and the District took a moment to celebrate and acknowledge the invaluable contributions of its dedicated Board members. Superintendent Dr. Jeffrey Hartmann expressed his gratitude, recognizing the Board for their unwavering commitment, selfless gift of time and their pivotal role in shaping our students' future. Governor Mike DeWine’s official proclamation was read, which further underscored the vital role of school board members in “creating and monitoring district plans to make sure students have the tools and skills to reach their full potential.”
The Board later approved the final reading and adoption of the district’s 2024-2025 academic calendar. Following a 30-day public review and comment period, this calendar aligns with all State of Ohio requirements, including 182 school days in the academic year.
Regular board business included the review of past meeting minutes, organization membership renewals, and review of the November Financial Reports. Updates were provided on student achievement and current legislation, and Superintendent Dr. Jeffrey Hartmann provided a report.
The board's next regular meeting will occur on Tuesday, February 20, 2024, at 6:30 p.m. in the Galion Middle School Computer Lab.
