Galion City Schools 5-star preschool program continues to shine as a model of excellence, blending community, care, and education into every aspect of its offerings. Monday, November 25, the preschool celebrated Thanksgiving with over 70 preschool students and their families, marking the ninth year of this beloved tradition. Beyond a festive meal, this year’s event incorporated engaging literacy activities, making it a celebration of both gratitude and learning.
Mr. Staton, the Primary Assistant Principal read a Thanksgiving-themed story to the students and families to start the event. This special storytelling moment reinforced the importance of reading as a shared experience that brings families closer together.
The traditional Thanksgiving menu included turkey, mashed potatoes, vegetable medley, dinner roll and of course a pumpkin fluff dessert. The tasty food was generously donated and thoughtfully prepared and served by our dedicated preschool staff and administration. Families participated in an interactive literacy activity, fostering collaboration and fun while waiting for staff members to serve the meal at festively decorated tables.
As the event concluded, each student left with a book to add to their home library and a folder filled with additional literacy activities to enjoy with their families. These resources are part of the ongoing effort to support early literacy development, equipping our students with the foundational skills they need to thrive academically.
“This event is about more than just a meal,” said preschool teacher, Suzanne Woodmansee. “It’s an opportunity to strengthen the connection between home and school and promote learning in a meaningful, family-centered way. As a 5-star rated program, we take pride in going beyond academics to create experiences that nurture the whole child and involve families in the educational journey.”
Katy Erlsten, Primary principal commented, “We are so grateful to our preschool team and administrative staff whose donations made this annual event so special. Their dedication and creativity continue to set our program apart. They ensure our students and their families feel supported in every way.”
As we carry the joy of this day into the rest of the school year, we are reminded that gratitude and learning go hand in hand—just like family and community in our 5-star preschool program. Be sure to check out our Facebook page to see many photos from the event.
Happy Thanksgiving from our preschool family to yours!
