The Galion City School Board of Education meeting occurred on Tuesday, December 17. During this meeting, several notable highlights were shared with the community, starting with the recognition of students and staff members who exemplify the Portrait of a Tiger quality of being Involved: Reagan Fox-Kindergarten, Kathryn Rinehart - 5th grade, Koltyn Little - 8th grade and Cameron Eckert - 12th grade. Stacey Harding - Primary School Aide; Paula Prince - Intermediate School 5th grade teacher; Cindy Glew - Middle School Intervention Specialist; Olivia Tanner - High School Science teacher. Congratulations to all these individuals who demonstrate a passion for the community's success by engaging in service opportunities and seeking ways to participate in school-related activities to develop a sense of Galion Pride.
Athletic Director Matt Tyrrell shared the fall sports recap, which included 32 athletes earning MOAC awards for their athletic accomplishments. In addition to the MOAC honors, four of these athletes were recognized for earning 1st Team All-Ohio Awards: Madelyn Schieber, Division V Honorable Mention All-Ohio Volleyball; Allen Carver, Division IV Honorable Mention All-Ohio Football; Jacob Chambers, Division IV 3rd Team All-Ohio Football; and Zach Sallee, Division IV 2nd Team All-Ohio Football.
The district celebrated the first promotion of 105 students to the rank of cadet airmen in the Civil Air Patrol program. The program’s instructors, Brian Kentosh and Allison Kentosh, were promoted to Senior Master Sergeant and Second Lieutenant, respectively.
Two of Galion’s students who attend Pioneer were recognized for their commitment to joining the military: Jacob Thomas will join the Army National Guard, and Avery Holtry will join the Army. Their commitment to serving our nation is commendable, and the district wishes them success in their future endeavors.
The Board of Education was pleased to announce they have officially extended an offer for the Treasurer position to Shannon King. Ms. King has been the Director of Food Services since 2021. She will take on the new role in January 2025. The selection reflects a commitment to strong financial leadership and the district's ongoing success.
