Galion City Schools

The Galion City School District Board of Education held its regular meeting on Tuesday, February 18th. The Board recognized four staff members and four students who exemplify the Portrait of a Tiger trait "Person of Integrity." These individuals were acknowledged for their commitment to honesty, responsibility, and strong moral character, setting a positive example for the school community. Those recognized were: Kenzington Steele - Kindergarten; Ezekiel Hedrick - 3rd grade; Maddox Zapata - 7th grade; Skyler Bucher - 11th grade and staff members, Cindy Conner - Primary School; Rebecca Baldy - Intermediate School; Shelly Barton - Middle School; Brian Kentosh - High School

The Board approved hiring Dawn Hunter as the new Food Service Director. Ms. Hunter has worked in several roles in the district and looks forward to continuing to provide excellence in food services. In addition, the Board approved several individuals as spring sports coaches, substitute teachers, and substitute bus drivers. 

Additionally, the Board accepted two monetary donations. The Elks Lodge #119 donated $500 to support Positive Behavioral Interventions and Supports (PBIS) and STAR rewards.  These programs encourage and recognize students' positive behavior and academic achievements.

The Galion Booster Club donated $5,000.This generous contribution will help purchase new uniforms for the baseball, wrestling, volleyball, and girls' tennis teams, ensuring student-athletes have the necessary equipment to represent Galion proudly.

“The ongoing support from our community partners like the Elks Lodge and the Galion Booster Club is invaluable to our students and programs,” said Dr. Jeff Hartmann, Superintendent of Galion City Schools. 

Furthermore, the Board approved continuing to participate in open enrollment and membership in OHSAA for the 2025-26 School Year. In addition, the Board approved the following items: 2025-26 Galion High School Course Offering Guide, a Memorandum of Understanding for the GEA Sick Leave Donation System, a resolution to convert Board Committees to Superintendent Committees, the adoption of the Special Education Model Policies and Procedures ("Model Policies") released by the Ohio Department of Education and Workforce ("DEW")

The March 18th Board of Education meeting has been rescheduled for Wednesday, March 5th, at 6:30 PM in the Middle School Media Center.
