Empathy requires being a caring, kind and compassionate person. Our students seek to understand and recognize others’ points of view, supporting even those with whom they may not agree.

We are always looking and listening for ways to improve our district. Restorative Practices continue at Galion City Schools. Today we share how affective statements help students express their feelings and impact on others in a constructive way. These statements focus on emotions rather than blame, fostering understanding and empathy. Here are a few examples affective statements:
“I feel hurt when you don’t include me in games because it makes me feel left out.”
“It makes me feel sad when I hear people saying bad things about my friend. Will you try to think of some nice things?”
“ It makes me feel good when I see you making good decisions at lunch”
Our students are hearing these types of statements from teachers and staff and are starting to use them independently when collaborating and communicating with each other.
